How to Make Money with Blogging
Content
This is up to you. Websites without content don’t get traffic and by extension they don’t get paid. It’s best to stick to a few topics you know then writing about the world. There are some topics that are better than others when it comes to making money, law being one. The content is important because the best way to make money is AdSense. You can “pad” your site with free content and articles from the various sources around the web, but you want to have mostly original content.
Adsense
AdSense is the most popular method to make money because it’s the easiest. You get targeted ads on your site and get paid per click. Like above, you get better income with different topics (such as law or medicine) but go with what you know.
CafePress
Are you the creative type? The sell your own T-shirts, books, mugs, and bumper stickers at CafePress. There is 0 upfront cost in designing the stuff, you only get the income when it sells. It’s a good deal if you can come up with things people will buy.
Traffic Generation
There are several quick ways to build traffic to your site. The major one is using blog traffic generators. These give you credits for each website you go to, and most have games or contests so you can earn bonus credits. You can also pay them for credits, banner impressions, and so on.
Here are the exchanges (please follow links if you sign up so I get referral credit):
BlogExplosion is the gold standard for blog exchanges. You have a 30 second wait on sites and it seems to have the best blogs on it. They also have a blog rocket which allows you to get some traffic that is independent of your surfing.
BlogSoldiers is new but I’ve had very good luck with it. It’s a good place to get noticed. It only has a 20 second wait on the sites. You can get text links and banner ads, I find the text links aren’t as effective.
BlogClicker I like less but still works. I seem to get the most referrals out of this one for whatever reason. Also a 20 second timer.
Blogxchange has a nice new look. You also get 100 credits just for signing up and viewing some minimum of sites. 20 second timer.
BlockCrowd also has a 20 second timer and only works when the blog is maximized and the active window.
BlogAzoo is also popular with many sites out there. Has a 20 second timer.
Blog Mad is new and there isn’t much info about it out yet. It goes public, theoretically, in February but is giving bonus credits to those who sign up now.
The other thing you can do is join blog “alliances”. These are generally oriented around specific topics, you can check out what probably has the best list at TTLB. While there you should also add your blog to the ecosystem.
Lastly, you can participate in the many round-up of blogs called “carnivals” by submitting your posts. You can view the various carnivals here
